Tablet prescription Overview


1. Overview


1.1 tablet refers to the round or irregular sheet-shaped solid preparation made of raw material drug or appropriate excipients.


1.2 classification of tablets: the tablets are mainly oral ordinary tablets, including buccal tablets, sublingual tablets, chewable tablets, dispersible tablets, effervescent tablets, sustained and controlled-release tablets, enteric coated tablets and orally disintegrating tablets. Common tablets are summarized as follows:


Buccal tablet refers to the tablet containing in the oral cavity which dissolves slowly to produce local or systemic effects. The raw material drugs in buccal tablets are generally soluble, mainly play the role of local anti-inflammatory, sterilization, convergence, pain relief or local anesthesia.


Sublingual tablet refers to the tablet which can dissolve rapidly under the tongue, and the drug is absorbed by sublingual mucosa and plays a systemic role. The raw materials in sublingual tablets should be easy to be absorbed directly, which is mainly suitable for emergency treatment.


Chewable tablets are tablets that are chewed in the mouth and swallowed. Chewing tablets should generally choose mannitol, sorbitol, sucrose and other water-soluble excipients as fillers and adhesives.


Dispersible tablets refer to the tablets which can disintegrate rapidly and disperse evenly in water. The raw materials in dispersible tablets should be insoluble. Dispersible tablets can be taken orally after water dispersing, or can be sucked or swallowed in the mouth.


Effervescent tablets refer to the tablets containing sodium bicarbonate and organic acids, which can produce gas in effervescent form when meeting water. The raw materials in effervescent tablets should be soluble and can be dissolved after bubbles are added.


Sustained release tablets refer to the tablets that slowly release the drug at a non constant rate in the prescribed release medium.


Controlled release tablets refer to the tablets that slowly and steadily release drugs in the prescribed release medium.


Enteric coated tablets refer to tablets coated with enteric coated materials. In order to prevent the decomposition failure of raw materials in the stomach, stimulate the stomach or control the localized release of raw materials in the intestinal tract, enteric coated tablets can be coated; for the treatment of colon diseases, the tablets can be coated with enteric coating.


Orally disintegrating tablets refer to tablets that can be rapidly disintegrated or dissolved in the mouth without water. It is generally suitable for low-dose raw material drugs, and is often used in patients with dysphagia or without medication. It can be prepared by direct compression and freeze-drying.
